the springtime of my love

when bluish gray glows in the bedroom
and the walls seem expanded, attempting
to contain all that i am as i come apart
in my feeling: i am not a bird coming
to flight, nor a caged animal set free;

i am not a butterfly,
only the edges of wet wings
shivering with birth and potential,
with the first taste of wind
and the sharp presence of promise.
