hush, i am wishing

click smooth wooden door shut; twist soft silver lock
till it speaks–
slide open palms across smooth
dimmer switches; unshoed, step forward
over the rough warp of carpet under tender soles
(covering souls under shivering skin, move)
to grasp and pull apart shimmering curtain froth
and push up the window
so the wind winds in, wisps wafting across the cool of a dry cheek

on to a dim silhouette: cool bed, colorless in nightime,
familiar, soft and sound–
one leg at a time pull up to sink into the blankets,
curl up tight, eyes closed, cheek to chilled cotton:
heavy sigh, silence and finally stilled form

(this picture haunts my dreams, i want to sleep
for so long)
